Integra Coal has chosen Mine Site Technologies’ (MAT) for site wide digital communications and tracking for both its open pit and underground mines. A description of the underground part of the installation follows. Located 8 km north of Singleton in the Hunter Valley, NSW, Brazilian mining giant Vale, operates the Integra Coal complex. Metso has celebrated the inauguration of its new service center in Guangzhou, Guangdong province, China, on January 8th. The new greenfield service center has been operational since November 2008. It provides advanced services to the pulp and paper industry in Southern China.

Fortescue hits 15 Mt iron ore milestone

Fortescue Metals Group (FMG) has shipped its 15 millionth tonne of iron ore through the Herb Elliott Port in Port Hedland, Western Australia, marking another milestone for the company. “The mine, rail and port operations teams worked hard throughout 2008 to achieve the 15 Mt milestone as the company continues to ramp-up its operations,” Fortescue Executive Director Operations Graeme Rowley said. “In December we shipped 2.6 Mt which is the highest monthly rate achieved to date. The fourth quarter result was 6.3 Mt shipped. In addition, the tonnes mined at Cloudbreak during 2008 totalled 19.5 Mt, just 1% shy of our target. (more…)

Metso strengthens its presence in South East Asia by setting up a new company, Metso Vietnam Co., Ltd., in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The office will be shared by Metso’s all three segments, Paper and Fiber Technology, Energy and Environment Technology and Mining and Construction Technology. The new office is located northwest of Ho Chi Minh City, about ten minutes’ ride from Tan San Nhat airport, with the city railway station in the neighboring block. In the beginning, the office will employ one person, Mr. Phuoc Mac Cam, Sales and Administration assistant, who will be happy to assist e.g. in travel arrangements....more at Metso
