Joint venture picks up export award
Consulting engineering and project implemen- tation firm Hatch’s involvement in Rio Tinto’s QIT Madagascar Minerals (QMM) ilmenite project saw its wet plant team of design engineers winning first place in the export category of this year’s Southern African Institute of Steel Construction (SAISC) Steel Awards, held earlier this year. The project was executed by the Mandena Joint Venture (JV), in which Hatch and Fluor were partners.

Brush Engineered Materials Inc. (NYSE: BW) of Mayfield Heights said it has acquired Academy Corp. of Albuquerque, N.M., a provider of precious and non-precious metals and refining services, for $23 million.

Mining, margins soften Protech’s profit slide
